A bench, thirty-eight blanks and four ways to cut them

Who we are

PRIVATE JEWELLER LIMITED trades as Onepiece Atelier. We are a private limited company registered in england and wales. Our registered and operating address is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom, and the business is jewellery manufacture and retail — we make what we sell rather than buying it in.

The workshop is small on purpose. One engraver can only cut so much in a day, and hand engraving in particular does not scale without either more engravers or worse work. It is why our lead times are honest ranges rather than a flat 48 hours, and why we quote the extra days for platinum instead of pretending it cuts like silver.

What we sell, precisely

Two things, priced separately because they are two different pieces of work:

1. A blank. A finished, unmarked piece of silverwork — a band, a disc, a bar, a signet, a bangle, a cufflink — in sterling silver, 9ct or 18ct gold, or platinum 950. There are 38 of them, from £45.
2. Engraving on that blank. Hand engraving, machine engraving, laser or diamond drag, each with its own charge, its own smallest character height and its own life expectancy.

Everything is one-off. There is no membership, no subscription, no stored balance and no points scheme, and we have no plans for any. You buy a piece; we make it; that is the whole relationship unless you come back.

We do not sell loose stones, we do not deal in second-hand jewellery, and we do not sell precious metal as an investment. We will not work with elephant ivory or any CITES-listed material, including on a piece you already own — see terms.

How a piece is actually made

1. You configure it in the studio. Blank, metal, size, face, method, content. The docket shows the estimated weight, whether it will need hallmarking, how many characters fit, the price and the lead time as you go.
2. You order it. Payment is taken in full. Nothing goes to the bench yet.
3. The cancellation window runs — 24 hours in which you can cancel for a full refund, from a button on your order page.
4. Uploaded artwork is reviewed by a person, usually within a working day. Nothing is cut from artwork that has not been approved.
5. The blank is made and weighed. If it is over the exemption weight for its metal it goes to an assay office to be tested and struck, and comes back before any engraving is done — so we can lay your text out around the mark rather than through it.
6. It is engraved by the method you chose, at the character height you chose, in the position you set.
7. It is finished, checked and photographed, then packed with its docket: metal, weight, method, character height, whether it was hallmarked.
8. It is dispatched tracked and signed, in plain outer packaging.

Why the studio tells you so much

Because every unpleasant surprise in this trade comes from information the workshop had and the customer did not.

You cannot tell from a photograph that a laser mark is a surface treatment which will fade on the outside of a ring. You cannot tell that a 5 mm band at size M holds 44 characters rather than 52, because 8 mm of it is reserved for a hallmark. You cannot tell that switching from silver to gold on the same blank crosses a statutory weight threshold, adds a fee and adds three days. And you certainly cannot tell that the moment your piece is engraved, the 14-day right to change your mind stops applying to it.

All four of those are true, all four are knowable before you pay, and all four are on the docket. We would rather lose an order to a fact than win one by omitting it.
