Payment, currency and security

One page that answers the practical questions: what you can pay with, in what currency, at what moment the money leaves your account, and who handles the card details.

The short version: major debit and credit cards, pounds sterling including VAT, charged when you place the order, and we never see your card number.

Version 2026-08-12 · PRIVATE JEWELLER LIMITED · Governing law: England and Wales

What we accept

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • Maestro
  • Secure checkout

Debit and credit cards from the schemes above, issued in the UK or abroad. Card payments are processed by a PCI DSS compliant payment provider on our behalf; the provider is configured at deployment and named on the payment page itself when you get there, along with any digital wallet it supports on your device.

We do not take payment by cheque, bank transfer or cash, and we do not offer credit, instalments or deferred payment of any kind. There is no membership, subscription, stored balance or points scheme on this site — every purchase is a one-off.

Currency and VAT

  • Every price on this site is in pounds sterling (GBP, £) and includes UK VAT at 20%.
  • The VAT element is itemised at checkout and on your receipt.
  • Orders delivered outside the UK have UK VAT removed at checkout. The destination country's import taxes, duty and handling fees then apply, and are the recipient's responsibility — see delivery.
  • We charge in sterling only. If your card is denominated in another currency, your issuer converts it at their rate and may add their own fee. That conversion is between you and your bank, and we have no part in it.

Exactly when you are charged

  1. Configuring a piece and adding it to your cart charges nothing and reserves nothing.
  2. The full amount is taken when you place the order, including the blank, the engraving, any assay office submission fee and delivery. We do not take a deposit and then invoice a balance.
  3. Nothing goes to the bench until your 24-hour cancellation window has closed. Cancel inside it and the whole amount comes back — see returns.
  4. If your piece includes uploaded artwork and we then refuse it at review, we refund that piece in full whether or not the window has closed.

The price you pay is the price shown on the checkout page you submitted. Quotations are held for 24 hours against metal price movement; after that a cart re-quotes and shows you the new figure before you pay, never after.

What appears on your statement

Payments show as PRIVATE JEWELLER LIMITED or ONEPIECE ATELIER, followed by our order reference. If you see a charge you do not recognise, email support@privatejewelleruk.shop or call +44 7290832493 with the amount and date and we will identify it the same working day — that is quicker for everyone than raising a dispute with your bank.

Card security

  • The entire site, including checkout, is served over HTTPS with a valid certificate.
  • Card details are entered into our payment provider's own secure fields and go straight to them. Full card numbers never reach our servers and are never stored by us. We receive the fact of payment, the amount, the card type and the last four digits.
  • Card payments in the UK and EEA are subject to strong customer authentication, so your bank may ask you to confirm the payment in its app. That step is theirs, not ours, and we cannot skip it.
  • We will never ask for your full card number, PIN or online banking password by email or telephone. If someone claiming to be us does, it is not us.

What we do hold about your order — name, address, contact details, the text you asked us to cut, any artwork you uploaded — is covered by our privacy notice, including the private storage and deletion schedule for uploads.

Refunds and cancellations

  • Refunds go back to the original card. We cannot refund to a different card or account.
  • Cancellations inside the 24-hour window are refunded within two working days.
  • Returned unengraved blanks are refunded within 14 days of arriving with us, usually sooner.
  • A refund includes the standard outbound delivery charge (£6.50 in the UK). If you paid for a faster service, we refund the standard rate.
  • Depending on your bank, a refund can take a further 3–5 working days to appear on your statement after we have issued it.

If a payment fails

A declined card is almost always the bank rather than us — a fraud check on an unfamiliar merchant, an expired card, or a limit. Nothing is charged and nothing is ordered; your cart and your configuration stay where they were, so you can try again.

If you see a pending amount for an order that did not complete, it is an authorisation that your bank will release, normally within a few working days. Send us the date and amount and we will confirm whether anything was actually taken.
